Thursdate

"… Killed fourteen wives by tickling them to death …"*  I eyed Paul suspiciously.

It's a little weird to be the one staying at home.  A goodbye kiss at the door and then Paul would leave for work.  I would then migrate to the Hobbit Hole.

Despite my not leaving the house, between work, housework, unpacking, rehearsals... we weren't seeing each other any more than before the move.  A Date Night - for relaxing and no work - was in order.  Um... but first, dinner had to be cooked.  Then, after eating, we sat down for some concentrated chilling and relaxing.

First, some serious lounging on the couch and television watching.  It wasn't the most spectacular of QI episodes, but there were some sections that made us laugh (and be suspicious).  I also learned something new about the Great Lakes: Michigan-Huron is one

Second, brains now activated, we played a game of Scrabble.  My first game since reading Stefan Fatsis's Work Freak: Heartbreak, Triumph, Genius, and Obsession in the World of Competitive SCRABBLE Players.  I tried to play with some of the strategies he had outlined in the book, but failed (by 4 points) because I didn't KNOW THE WORDS (the first principle).

I don't think I'm a horrible loser, but I do like to win.  We both do.  So, must step up my game.

(Right: Final board.)

Successful as it was (lots of play and no work!), it might be a while before we have another Date Night (and one that involves Scrabble).  So much to do...

* Per QI Series 10, Episode 14, minute 27, a character from Dickens' The Old Curiosity Shop.  Possibly inspired by a true case from 1869 where a man had been charged with driving his wife insane by tickling.  That doesn't sound too nice either...
