All is Vanity

Forced rest = Good time to finally read all those magazines I've saved (and made my friends help move...)
I'd forgotten how much I liked Vanity Fair.   The layout is elegant while still being impactful (it drives Paul a little nuts).  Glamorous celebrity photos, are next to historic shots, which are next to some very in-depth articles in subjects that I might have thought were dull, but were made almost exciting / movie-like.

I felt I was learning when I read Debt and Dumb (taxation power is needed in order to build good credit - never thought about it, but of course!).

In another issue, my original take on Norman Rockwell's art (cartoonish, overly sweet) was turned around after reading Norman Rockwell's American Dream.  Not only were there more serious and touching pieces (I'd never seen before Girl in Mirror), the process for creating them was incredible.

His iconic (triple) self portrait also gained meaning when examined more closely and in light of his personal life.

Then, there are other the surprises to the magazine, such as biscuit advert next to one of high end luxury bags.

There's also a good number of magazines I inherited from Catherine.  Fast Company (has a similar layout to VF, but VF is prettier... um... I guess that's kind of expected) tells me about some companies emerging markets, Edward Norton's role in an affording building project, and solar cell developments (...from 5 years ago, because the magazine's that old).

It's all so interesting that it just might be o.k. to stay (instead of being stuck) inside for longer.  Does this mean I'm becoming a recluse?  It's also snowy and blowing and cold outside... and my emissary let's me know what's important going on out there...

But then, but then, there are the home improvement / interior decorating magazines... Ugh.  Back to wishing I could actually get up to do things.

(Right: I'm sure this would be even funnier if I played video games.)
