Great Crepes! Earth Day

Chris, who's this who got married in 2017?  And, who's the kid?  :P

So, we managed to honour the Earth in one way today: we took a walk outside!

But not before having a nice big breakfast brunch.

James and I were spoiled with freshly whipped up crepes (Chris, Claudia, and Steph slaving at the hobs).  Though truth be told - James and I were pretty happy with just eating all those delicious fillings.

(Below:
1. Crepe Pig
2. Cucumbers are hard
3. Chocolate sauce? Yes.)

Chris (still planning out hosting Sunday Brunches) got us to brainstorming about other food ideas.  Crepes were certainly scalable, but I'm partial to a pancake.  Both, seemed to be similar, but not quite as awesome as his favourite Sri Lankan street food: hoppers (a version here).  Though I suspect (like crepes) it's almost all down to the delicious fillings.

(Below: Stare down!)

Eating in Sri Lanka takes us into stories about being the only white person in the whole room.  I've not experienced it.  I half wonder if it's the other side of the coin of how I felt when I was in Hong Kong...

(Right: See it's a chair and a drum!)

Chris had laughed at me when I bundled James (and myself) up for the walk in "the woods".  But see there (below): icebergs!  Vindicated!

 (Below: BASH, BASH!)

(Above Left: Nothing happier than a boy with a stick.  / Above Right: Anyone home?)

And since we were in the neighbourhood, we drop in on Celina and Theresa.  They were studying and cleaning up, and definitely up for a giggle break.

(Above: The sleepy Shaolin monk that I think looks a lot like *someone*)

I drop off James for his nap and head home for my own cleaning session.

Life can be really nice.

A Late Brunch = Lunch?

Big Mark's Buffet Plans:
1. Carbs
2. Protein
3. Dessert
4. Dessert 2
5. Repeat 1-4

Arrived only a little late to the volunteer brunch, but some people were already done eating and ready to leave.

As usual, the spread at the Ramada / Raddison was spectacular.  I'm picky in my choices, but I still know I'll have trouble getting to a first dessert (let alone Big Mark's plan for two).  So, I made sure to take pictures of the prettiness.

Not sitting with my usual group of TA friends turned out to be pretty interesting.  A talk about romance novels of the supernatural / fantasy kind takes on a surprisingly serious note: Would you really trade all the people you love (barring for one) for immortality?

The weirder part of this discussion: It was strangely familiar as if I'd already had it in a dream.  (Again - maybe I should be logging these things.)

As more people leave, people left their original tables to gather around the main two.  Here I caught Marissa and her little friend.

Quietly protecting her desserts with a large jousting stick, he was certainly formidable.

But, the greatest enemy turns out to be Marissa herself. (Yes, he was dissected).

Manoj arrived with only 30 minutes left in the brunch reservation, but still manages to eat three large plates.  Then he convinces a bunch of the guys to join him at the driving range.  Maybe that's the right way to do it?

Manoj: "You are what you eat, that's why I don't eat pork.  I don't want to become a pig."
Me: "That's bacon on your plate... and ham..."
Manoj: What?! Bacon is pork?!

Urban Brunch

"Brunch must be a Canadian thing."  I frowned at Paul, didn't they have it in the UK?  It was just breakfast and lunch combined... right?

I guess it's not exactly everyone cup of tea*, and yet it is pretty popular among my friends... especially if Clarence is town.

The Tradition: When Clarence comes to town, the Sorefeet go to brunch.

So I swing over to Southgate LRT station and check out the shoe sculpture up close (hm... did Brian McArthur happen to model them after me? :P)  Paul and I met, and were picked up as planned by Darren and Clarence.  Our destination: The Urban Diner

Nothing seems to have changed since my last visit to the 124th location.  We were seated at a comfortable booth, and Maria later came to join us.

Could it really be an entire year since we all (well, as many of us there were) were in the same place together?  Well... what has happened?  Maria talks about finishing up school here and applying for journalism school on the East Coast.  Darren is still in the thick of things with Dancesport Alberta...

When it came time to order, Paul and Clarence took on the meat challenge, the Diner Meatloaf Sandwich (right).  Darren (not suprisingly) chooses the Urban Diner's take on french toast (which makes Clarence have second thoughts; below).

After the brunch - we visit the neighbouring dessert shop (how could we not?).

(Right: A look around before we leave.)

* Though there is Dim Sum, which in direct transalation from Chinese is "Drink Tea" :P
That evening: Tango from the sidelines.

"Am I intense?  Oh, yeah, I'm intense."
