So that's why I'm coughing and my nose is running!

2 tsp of cayenne did seem a bit much...

It was only after tasting the dish (and coughing, etc.) that I looked it up: Chili powder is not the same as cayenne!
http://culinaryarts.about.com/od/glossary/g/Chili-Powder.htm
In fact, according to recipe found in the article:
Chili Powder Recipe
1 tablespoon ground cumin
2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon ground oregano
the mix is less than 15% cayenne pepper.

Yikes.

It's good that Paul can stand it (and he can add yogurt to help cool it down).

This is nice... wait, you're not my mommy!

Catherine visits.  But not for long.  Oh, James.

You're no longer my favourite toy...

Took James in for another set of immunizations. This time Mom held James.  I'm not sure which one is better... will he just associate us holding him as something painful will happen?  And I still wanted to cry when he cried.  But, he recovered quickly.  All better, like nothing happened.

He is now 5.76 kg and 56.5 cm long.  Which means he's (due-date adjusted):
- 20th percentile for weight
- (but only) 3-5th for height!

Yikes!  He's turning into a ball!*

We've graduated to the next "All About Me" brochure in the Alberta Health Services Growth and Development Series.  I'm no longer his favourite toy!  (If ever I was.)  It's a small blow.  Bound to happen, but it feels like I missed out on something.

It's hot and there was more hail.

We're safely inside and there's more tummy time.

* Not really.  I know this is healthy for him and I shouldn't worry about it.  But there's still the twinge in my mind: what if he ends up chubby like  me?

Hail and Happy Birthday

They muggy day finally resolved with some rain... and some hail... and some sewer backup!  Yikes!  Thankfully, all that stayed outside.

When Paul came back from work, we (with Jackie remotely) serenaded him over a "density cake" (my no added sugar banana bread) and one candle.  Someone was pretty interested in that candle...

Unfortunately, "home from work", wasn't "free from work", and Paul still had some deadlines to work on.  But I hope he had a nice break with us.  At least he could take any aggression out on the "cake".

Note for next time: When spread out and baked in pie plate -- density cake becomes even denser and harder.  Stab, stab.

More TT in the Summer Heat

I'm here all week.

Roly-Poly Tummy Time

Um... I'm not sure about this...

Waaah!
But wait, I will rise again!

To Blue Orchid and Back!

We took our first bus trip!

Olivia and TipTip's birthday celebration was in the perfect location: Just one bus away.  So, we packed the stroller and set off to Blue Orchid.

What a hot day.  We arrived to find the air conditioning wasn't working.  I felt a hot sweaty mess, but James had the option on stripping down to his onsie.

Monica and TipTip seemed to have a good time bouncing James around.  But Wendy, Lorena, and Olivia kept their distance.

Wendy: He's not looking at me, I'm not going to play with him.

Ugh, eating was so awkward.  I originally planned on just ordering plain white rice and something separate from the menu, but people wanted to be nice and said, "Oh, just make sure they don't use MSG in any of the dishes..." It likely made everyone's meal less nice.  And, I ended up sticking just to white rice and some chicken that didn't touch the soy sauce (since I just wasn't sure).  And no cake :(

Wendy said I didn't look very cheerful.  I told her I was just so tired.  It was hard to follow the conversation around the table. Even out of my arms, my focus was drawn to James.

The other part, of course, is that leaving the house is a bit a headache even with Paul there to help.  I'm appreciating ramps a lot more and have to think twice about where the stroller can go.  And, it turns out, not all washrooms have a fold down change table!  Thankfully there was a enough counter space near the sink, and James was good enough (this time) not to roll.

Things learned:  Need to pack 2 outfits at least.  (Yep, he messed up both.)

These beautiful cakes are from T&T.  They say the taro (on the right) was better than the chestnut.

And wow, downtown sure looks different.

The right lighting...

... makes things look beautiful.  (And can really detract from the mess.)

It even makes my usual breakfast (oatmeal, banana, and peanut butter) look better.  But it didn't help it stay hotter longer (when *someone*, also usual, interrupted my eating of it).

Brexit Bubble and Some Different Angles

Brexit: Leave.

I'm mostly in a bubble (protected / removed) from this, but Paul is (understandably) upset.

Jackie tells us there's a wave of people applying for passports... which probably means it is time for us to look into these things for James.

In the meantime though, there are shoulders to ride on and ceilings to avoid.

(Above: Paul catches me in the right light.)
