"And now we observe Lana in her natural habitat... in the kitchen, in front of the sink she paces trying to figure out what to wash... oh no! I think she's spotted us. Do not make eye contact or she might charge!" ~ Erik, as I puzzled on how to load Steph & Rem's dishwasher
Lunch hour… Tuesday… I guess I should be working on the assignment that Dennis gave us for tonight, but I am totally, utterly unmotivated. Not sure where the euphoric energy from last week came from, or where it went. But I do look forward to seeing how I did on the midterm.
It's going to be a long dance term. When people asked me last week if I think I would miss teaching, I told them probably not. I thought of those classes where I couldn't remember my left foot from my right, and whether a turn was counter or clock-wise and the embarrasment from all of it. But I knew I was going to miss Darren (Darren I miss you!). What I never thought I would miss and did: the microphone. Lana the Diva made another appearance. This time in the form of a "High Fidelity" style daydream, where she pulls the microphone / headset off of R's head and... um... right... smile, demo, FOCUS! I never thought I would go crazy just because someone was teaching differently from me. I was wrong. I promise to be good next class. If not only for the fact that Ben, Ken, Jen, Sam the British guy, Song Yee (Anne's friend), Beth, and various other possibilities (e.g. Jeff) will be there. Must be good.
On Friday, Tip Tip tells us that she can't retire until Wendy and I are both married off. *laugh* This is after lunch at the Power Plant, as we head back to work. Wendy (my new "big sister" at the office) stops me from picking up all the lovely feathers and sparkles I see along the way... probably for the best.
I am late again for Friday Feast - Robbie Burns edition - though not the last to arrive. Unfortunately though I missed the unveiling of the haggis! Rem created 2 haggi (?) for the occassion, using tin-foiled stomaches. As the question was posed last week: is "vegetarian haggis" oxymoronic? Or merely a contradiction? Either way, it existed. I tried both the vegetarian, and the non-vegetarian varieties, and couldn't believe I ate so much. Erik and Steph did a rousing reading from the Bible (was it Solomon?). Steph showed off her new knitting. Anne prepared a sticky pudding. And while other people were taking care of the camera duties and explaining math jokes (Epsilon approaching zero I believe was the punchline) - I washed some dishes! And it was good.
The next day, Stone Soup at Lindsey's to celebrate her entrance into the "quarter century" club. Thomas indeed did bring KFC as promised (which didn't go into the soup). We were missing the stone, but the soups turned out great. Much appreciated was the "option" of strawberry wafer cookies a la Simony style. I accosted the teapot and came out with a new hat. Would you trust an accountant wearing a teacosy? Someone thought Teacosy Taxes would be perfect. Board games after dinner included Brainwave. Totally funny - Steph and I really connected on the category of cheese. Next I got to play Scrabble with Chris, Mark, and Rem, while in the background Simony, Lindsey, Steph, Thomas, and Clara played Pit. It was pretty difficult to concentrate. I had so much fun spelling badly! More than usual at least :)
Back to work go I. Wait! Just got handed a postcard of beautiful beaches, sent by Lidia! O.k. first a small daydream... hm... sun... sand...

From the Ready Made How to Make {Almost} Everything: A Do-It-Yourself Primer - "A Mini Manifesto":

Hello Lovely peoples! I'm back from a vacation with Spoka. We visited the lovely Lidia waterfall (see right), and learned much about spoons! *blink, blink*
Um... o.k. despite the amazing photographic evidence, I didn't go vacationing with Spoka. I spent the last week being terribly antisocial so that I could become better acquainted with our friend ITA - the Income Tax Act. And inadvertently depriving Steph of some of her blog fix (make up posts on the way!), and lead one concerned person to question my viability. All this for the midterm this past Tuesday. Fun! And that's the scary part... it was fun. A day after and I still happily whipped out my calculator to calculate the bus pass credit for Chris... because you know... fun!
But also lots of hard work. Used the office as my study space, thanked Lorena profusely for letting use some of my banked time.
And then... fell a sleep on the bus en route to the exam. Dang it! Lorena's birthday cake was soooo good... but also so bad. She even predicted my sugar crash. Well, I managed to wake up for my stop, but had to do stretches and a part of a jive routine to get all the blood flowing and brain working, all to strange stares in the hallway... there may have been some cute paramedics... but I wasn't paying attention. And then 3 hours went by with me hardly noticing.
Accountants have this warped sense of humour, and it showed on the exam. Dennis, who looks an awful lot like Ernie from Seasame Street when I started thinking about it (people and muppets... good lord), added some interesting details to our hypothetical taxpayer's lives. Such as Ned, who went to prison for assaulting a soccer coach... Hm... maybe it wasn't as funny as I thought it was... Oh, and yes he is the brother of Thomas Gee who taught many of us auditing and accounting theory.
Lidia has been away for over a week now, and I haven't had a chance to start missing her yet. Things have just been so crazy at work. At some point Tip Tip calculated with the missing people, and Lidia on vacation... well, the two of us were trying to juggle the work of 5 people. Dare I say nutty?
This week was the start of the new dance term. I am half an hour away from heading out to dance class. Darren made me realise that this is the first time we would not be TAing or teaching together.
Noticed yesterday that Churchill LRT station has been converted to "Disney" station. Is someone feeling a little threatened by Las Vegas? The advert photos are amazingly beautiful. But I'm still not convinced. I am a princess... but not that kind of princess. Jaclyn and I had a chance meeting there today, and she told me she would definitely go for the Jedi Training Camp.
Happy Robbie Burns Day! And I'm off!

Stuff + Cats
Just finished eating a lemon scented apple, the result of Vera's claims that running the apple underwater isn't doing anything. Think of all the people who have touched it... the pesticides... Using dishsoap - now that does something. Let's see how long I can keep this up for.
Extremely behind on updating. Lots of cool things happening during the week, but have been too low in energy to appreciate it all. The blizzard and turn in weather that everyone seems to be talking about, has turned the city into an ice rink. And yet some people still insist on bicyling.
Been extremely spoiled at the office with visits from Rem, Matt, and Jaclyn. (Yes, Jaclyn, I would be lonely if you didn't visit). Was told my section of the office looks like "a small appliances graveyard." Will have to double up on efforts of productivity. Lidia is heading to the Dominican Republic next week!
Upon putting on more layers and sweaters to battle the cold, found that a more than expected number have shrunk... hm... maybe a natural wardrobe culling will be in effect.
First TA class had come and gone, and I was surprised that upon waking the next morning - I can walk! Then sat down at work for x number of hours and felt like what I would think a pretzel would feel like... you know... if it were alive and all...
Updates on Toaster: Catherine has suggested I send it to the Mythbuster guys (surely they can find a use for it). Matt is convinced that it can be used for therapeutic means: take it into the back, and imagine it is every piece of technology that was supposed to be an improvement. I think that was an Office Space reference. Still taking suggestions!
Recommended by both Jaclyn and Kim as good distractor: http://www.stuffonmycat.com/
Off to Feast!

I cannot find my fork. All that is available is plastic... or someone else's lying innocently on the counter... I'm seriously thinking about pinching it for lunch. Dilemma almost solved in finding a pair of chopsticks in desk. Now the question is are wooden chopsticks better than plastic?
Been downing chocolate brandy beans in strange rationalization that it is in fact helping me get better from my cold (alcohol... cough syrup...)... but of course not helping with post-holiday shape. May be partially why I'm so giddy. Though there are other factors: it is Friday, there is Feast, and Jazzy girl announced that she's engaged! Congratulations (and Happy Birthday), Jazzy!
And since there is such interest in the toaster situation: Behold!

Now all I need is a Readymade solution for the broken one. Ideas?

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year everyone!
Lana is back at work. Full internet access during work hours has been restored! But there's that pesky thing called work, so the notes I took over the holidays will slowly becoming posts.
I have to say it's been a fun start to a new year. I toasted the work toaster. And so yesterday's breakfast menu consisted of microwave-warmed bread for breakfast next to the prerequisite green tea. Not 24 hours, another toaster comes out of work storage. It's a beauty. I think it's from the seventies (chrome sides, with white, brown, and orange detailing). Which in retrospect is very cool.
Tax class on the first day back was very difficult. And I come home to find Mom has been doing some fung shui readjustments to my room. Let's see if that will help :)
Back to work! Spoka!
