1 hour consultation and 2 week follow-up

The consultant suggested surgery... Yikes!  She thought James a small tongue-tie which may be the reason he's having trouble latching.  But other than that, she didn't have much more advice than to do what I've been doing.

I was a little disappointed. I'd expected more from a breastfeeding consultant.  (Granted, I did get a lot of help from the different nurses -- so maybe nothing was left.)  And what I've been doing, I'm not sure is sustainable (3-hour cycles of feeding, topping up, and then pumping again...), but she said the pumping was necessary because the shield prevented the body from getting the right (or right intensity of) cues to keep producing milk.

Anyway, once finished we went to see the pediatrician.  Good news: James is now 2.48 kg (5 lbs 7 oz)!

Dr. N was impressed.  She also wanted me to continue what I was doing...

But what about the Cow's Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA) (and potentially soy allergy)?  She said go with the exclusion diet, but also his eczema could be due to dry weather and to work on that with creams and lotions.  Oh, and while she noticed the small tongue-tie, she didn't think it was worth surgery.

Next follow-up in 2 weeks.  Fingers-crossed we'll have some of the problems are sorted and he's still going strong.
